International Symposium on Project Approaches in Engineering Education
"Organizing and Managing Project Based Learning" 26 - 27 July 2012 São Paulo, Brazil

 

The Department of Production and Systems and the Research Centre for Education of the University of Minho are hosting the symposium in cooperation with the Pontifical Catholic University and Mackenzie Presbyterian University, both of São Paulo, ASIBEI (the Iberoamerican Association of Engineering Education Institutions) and the SEFI Curriculum Development Working Group to join teachers, researchers on Engineering Education, deans of Engineering Schools and professionals concerned with Engineering Education, to enhance Project Approaches in Engineering Education through workshops and discussion of current practice and research.

The programme has a strong workshop component, aiming to encourage discussion of current practice and research on project approaches.

We are especially honoured to have inspiring international keynote speakers: Lueny Morell from Hewlett Packard Laboratories, California, and Erik de Graaff from Aalborg University.PAEE especially welcomes submissions that focus on the following issues:

  • The first year of projects
  • Designing problems and learning environments
  • Preparing teachers and students for a project approach
  • The role of the tutor
  • Assessment of student learning in projects
  • Learning in teams
  • Partnerships with business
  • Interdisciplinarity
  • Transversal competencies in project work
  • Innovative experiences in Engineering Education
  • Research on project Approaches
  • Project approaches and ICT support
  • Serious games

We especially welcome student contributions to the symposium. Students who do project work in their undergraduate or graduate engineering degrees are invited to submit papers on their learning experiences in project work. Student papers will be candidates for the best Student Paper Award.

The deadline for the submission of extended abstracts is 1 February 2012. More information is available in the conference website http://paee.dps.uminho.pt/

The main language of the symposium is English, but paper sessions will be held in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Papers can be submitted in the preferred language. We are looking forward to welcome you in São Paulo in July 2012!
